What is parasailing?

Parasailing is an activity that combines the fun of taking on the water with the exhilaration of flying, to create the ultimate water sports adventure. To break it down, parasailing is a recreational kiting activity where you’re suspended in the air by a parachute-style canopy wing attached to a vehicle (usually a boat). As the speed boat pulls you along, you ride the wind with the rush of the ocean air all around you. Parasailing is a seriously exciting water sport that gets your blood pumping like nothing else.

As the parascender, i.e. the person parasailing, you don’t have to do anything to control the parachute. You can just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride as the speed boat pulls you along. If the boat has enough power, multiple people can parasail together in a tandem parasail experience, so you can go with a friend, family member or partner!

How to parasail from a boat?

Your parasailing adventure begins on the boat, and you’ll motor out into the sea while your instructor provides a safety briefing. Once you've reached the fly zone, your harness will be fitted and you'll be clipped onto the chute. Then you'll be winched up into the air by the experienced staff. Launch and landing by winch is proven to be the safest parasailing method, so you're in good hands!

Feel the wind in your hair as the speed boat tugs you along and you fly through the skies. From beneath the colorful canopy of your parasail you'll have 360-degree views over the water and surrounding landscapes. If you’re parasailing on the Gold Coast Broadwater, you can take in the scenery of the Gold Coast skyline from the mountains to islands and everything in between. Below, the water teems with fish and seabirds, and if you're lucky, you might even see a dolphin!

If you've got a mate who's as much of a daredevil as you are, bring them along for a day of tandem parasailing. You'll bond over the incredible sensation of soaring on the breeze, legs dangling, holding on tight to your harness. Seasoned parasailers recommend it—like a bottle of wine, your parasailing experience is better shared.

As far as sports activities go, parasailing is great because you get all the thrill of flying but don’t need any skill or experience to do it. You’ll be in capable hands who will get you flying behind the jet boat easily. All you have to do is show up, sit back, and enjoy the flight.

How high is it to parasail?

Soaring behind the speed boat, you’ll be 100m above the water at the peak of your parasailing flight. It’s the perfect vantage point to spot marine life in the water below and enjoy incredible panoramic views stretching out around you. The heights and the rush of flying is sure to get your heart racing!

What to wear in parasailing?

While parasailing takes you flying over the water, you won’t necessarily be fully submerged in the water at any point during the activity. Modern methods of parasailing involve taking off and landing on the deck of the boat, so whether you go for a swim in the water is up to you! You will be exposed to wind and ocean spray though, so parasailing operators recommend swimwear (for warm days). It’s also important that whatever you are wearing fits closely enough to not fall off or get caught in the harness.

Is there a weight limit for parasailing?

Weight restrictions do apply for parasailing to keep the experience safe and enjoyable. When you book your experience at Adrenaline, your parasailing operator will specify the exact weight limitations. But generally, solo parasailers need to be within the maximum weight of 140kg, and tandem parasailers need to be within the maximum combined weight of 200kg and minimum combined weight of 65kg. We have those limitations listed on site for different parasailing experiences and if you have any questions - just ask!
