The Tattesall's Finke Desert Race is the only Australian Rally event to be recognised worldwide, and attracts leading competitors from across the globe. Running on the Queen's Birthday holiday weekend for over 30 years, the race runs from Alice Springs to the Finke River along sections of the Old Ghan Railway, taking in the terrain of red dirt, spinnifex and sand along the way.

For years the race was reserved just for bikes, but in the late 1980's the introduction of buggies bought fierce rivalry for the accollade of "King Of The Desert". After a decade of technological advances, the buggies began to win the race. Nowadays bikes and buggies compete alongside each other, for separate prizes.

Alice Springs, the home of the Finke Race, comes alive during the event, and visitors numbering 12,000 travel to camp beside the track in their tents and swags. A scrutineering session takes place on the Friday before the race, where officials inspect your race equipment and you get to meet fellow competitors. There's a real party atmosphere - food and drink is laid on by the residents of Alice Springs, and the evening even includes a fireworks display!

Your opportunity is to train as a Navigator of the Off Road Rush racing team and compete in this extreme rally. You will travel 460km side by side with competitors at speeds of up to 180km/hr, and navigation skills you learn in your pre-race training will mean the difference between winning and losing.

You will compete in the latest 2007 A-ARM off road buggy. The buggies are fitted with a combined wheel travel of 47 inches; Lexus 4L V8 Engine, managed by HALTECH Engine Systems; beard suspension seats and a 5 point racing harness making your ride as safe as possible.

The Off Road Rush racing team are highly experienced and drive race buggies for a living. They compete and win in similar rally events throughout the racing calendar; you confidently stand a chance of actually winning.
