Equally thrilling and relaxing, a hot-air ballooning adventure is a pure and unforgettable experience – especially over the unique city of Canberra. Depending on the wind direction, your flight will take you over the river allowing unparalleled views of the spectacular Canberra skyline, beautiful suburbs and parklands The still morning air makes flying conditions perfect during what is known in the hot-air ballooning industry as the "weather window", a gloriously peaceful time over an often hectic city.

The hot-air ballooning journey begins with a briefing by the pilot before you head to the launch site and, if you like, help prepare the hot-air balloon for flight. Thirty minutes later you'll be drifting gracefully over the countryside. The hot-air ballooning flight itself will last around one hour.

After gently touching down again a hot air ballooning flight certificate is distributed to all passengers, rounding off a fabulous adventure. The icing on the cake is a glass of Champagne – the perfect way to toast your hot-air ballooning adventure.

I received an Adrenalin voucher as a gift to go Hot Air Ballooning in Canberra for my birthday. Finally managed time to come up to Canberra and use it, but it was well worth the wait. Despite being an overcast day the ride was fantastic. The staff were friendly and happy to explain what they were doing. Despite the weather we still enjoyed spectacular views, including managing to fly almost directly over Parliament House, many emabssies as well as the Lodge (Prime Minister's residence), and also ended up passing straight past Yarralumla (Governor-General's residence). We touched down shortly afterward (nearly frightening some joggers as we sailed directly over them) and we all assisted in in packing up the balloon (as one fellow traveler commented it was like stuffing away the world's largest sleeping bag). We ended off with a champagne back at the hotel. All in all it was a great time and would happily recommend it to anybody else.

Fitness and Experience

No specific fitness level is required but participants must be able to stand for the duration of the flight (about one hour) and bend their knees slightly for landing
All ages from 6 upwards are welcome
Children 6 to 12 years receive a special rate and must be accompanied by an adult

What to Bring/Wear

Wear outdoor clothing - long sleeve top and pants to suit the temperature on the morning of your flight
It is typically warmer rather than colder up in the balloon, so it helps to have a layer you can take off
Wear sturdy shoes – no high heels!
It is recommended that you wear a hat or cap
Cameras and videos are welcome but please keep onboard items to a minimum
