Equally thrilling and relaxing, a hot-air ballooning adventure is a pure and unforgettable experience – especially over the beautiful city of Christchurch. There is no other place in the world where it is possible to fly from the centre of the city, in view of the ocean, toward the snow-capped Southern Alps. The still morning air makes flying conditions perfect during what is known in the hot-air ballooning industry as the "weather window", a gloriously peaceful time over this stunning city.

The hot-air ballooning journey begins with a briefing by the pilot before you head to the launch site and, if you like, help prepare the hot-air balloon for flight. Thirty minutes later you'll be drifting gracefully over the countryside. The hot-air ballooning flight itself will last around one hour.

After gently touching down again a hot air ballooning flight certificate is distributed to all passengers, rounding off a fabulous adventure. The icing on the cake is a glass of Champagne – the perfect way to toast your hot-air ballooning adventure.

Fitness and Experience

Ballooning is a gentle and suitable for all persons over the age of 5 years
No specific level of fitness is required however you will need to be able to stand for the duration of the flight (1 hour)
People with the following concerns may not be suitable to fly and should discuss this prior to booking: pregnant women, people with aggravated back, hip or leg problems or those who have had recent operations

What to Bring/Wear

We recommend you wear outdoor clothes (avoid whites) and some solid shoes as the ground is often covered with dew in the early morning
The temperature in the balloon is the same as on the ground
We move with the breeze so there is no wind chill factor
Bring sunglasses, cap and sunscreen or a winter hat if it is chilly out
Your camera is a must. Be sure to have lots of film as this spectacular panorama is a photographer’s paradise!

More Information

All prices are quoted in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) When and where can I fly? Flights are at sunrise every day of the year - weather permitting of course! Flights take off from the centre of Christchurch city. However, if conditions prevent us from doing so, we can transport passengers and crew to an alternate take off site in the nearby countryside.

What about transport? You will be required to meet your ballooning crew in Christchurch city. If you need transport to the meeting place, pickups can be arranged from central city hotels/motels and hostels.

What about photos/videos? The crew will take in-flight photos that will be available for purchase at the end of the flight.
