Swimming with Dolphins
As seen on channel 9 - Getaway
Swimming with dolphins in Melbourne or Adelaide is the ultimate experience, one of the true life changing adventures available in Australia. You can choose to swim with dolphins, or join one of our dolphin and whale watching cruises to get up close and personal with the dolphins in their natural habitat. Polperro Dolphin Swims run in Mornington Peninsula, VIC while in South Australia, trips depart from Holdfast Marina, Glenelg.
Your day begins with an environmental and boat safety briefing, before you set off to the dolphin’s habitat. On the way, your experienced crew will introduce you to snorkeling with an emphasis on environmental awareness, and you will be kitted out with a wetsuit, snorkel and fins (or BYO if you have them!). Expect to see other wildlife on the way – on our Mornington Peninsula Cruises for example you can experience shags, weedy sea dragons, shearwaters, Australian fur seals and the occasional turtle. Then, once you approach the pod of dolphins, the boat will slow allowing you to slip into the water next to these wild animals.
Though dolphins are wild animals, you will be amazed by their intelligence and friendliness, and willingness to interact with humans. We recommend that you don’t wear sunscreen (which can damage the environmental habitat) and do not attempt to touch or grab the animals – remember they are not house-trained animals!
Most dolphin swimming boats run seasonally, Melbourne dolphin swims operate from October to April, while Dolphin Swim trips in Glenelg, South Australia run September through to June.
