The thrill of driving a race-prepared V8 Supercar around a full-sized race track is one few will forget, whilst driving an F1-style single-seater racing car is unlike anything else. Usually reserved for professional drivers, this adventure gives the opportunity for a spirited drive in either a Holden or Ford V8 Racecar at race speeds, before being lowered into the cockpit of a single seater race car!

Expect a tea or coffee over a full safety briefing and introduction with an experienced and professional instructor. Then it's on with the helmet, race-suit and gloves for a track briefing, with emphasis on braking points, racing lines and acceleration techniques. With the instructor at your side you are set to go with some blistering adrenalin-fuelled laps of Taupo International Raceway. 2-way radio communication is installed to make sure you get the most from the experience.

Then, after a car briefing, you're strapped into the open cockpit of the Formula Challenge single seater with your legs stretched out into the nose of the car, the steering wheel in front of you and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. You're only a couple of inches off the ground and you'll know it; you can feel every bump and vibration and you'll have to fight not to oversteer, as your super-responsive car reacts to every tiny adjustment you make. This is driving at its limits, as done by the pros; just you and the car going at speeds significantly faster than a Porsche 911.

More Information

In early 1999 Craig began designing and building Formula Challenge as a new type of racing car. Primarily this was to introduce a class of car to New Zealand which was both competitive and affordable, but most importantly gave the impression that you were driving an F1 car. He has now manufactured a total of 12 cars, including a custom built two seater version, to allow people to experience the thrill of being driven in a single seater racing car.

Craig was instrumental in running the successful Formula Challenge TV series which was introduced to New Zealand Motorsport enthusiasts in 2002 and has continued yearly through to 2005.

Formula Challenge cars incorporate all the technology of a modern racing car, with F1 style paddle gear change, full data logger acquisition dash equipment and are built to conform to all MotorSport New Zealand safety requirements.
